Elounda is situated 7km from Agios Nikolaos in Eastern Crete and is approximately 1 hours drive from Heraklion airport. Many years ago Elounda was a small fishing village, but over the years tourism has developed and the sleepy village now becomes quite vibrant in the summer months.

Large luxury hotels have been built on the Gulf of Mirabello (five minutes away) and in Elounda village itself there is accommodation to suit all budgets from villas with private pools to self catering studios. Throughout the area are many tavernas and restaurants with Greek or international cuisine and numerous coffee shops and bars. There is a good selection of shops and of course a glorious harbour full of small fishing boats and a wonderful blue flag sandy beach offering water sports and a clear blue sea for snorkeling.

At the entrance of Elounda Bay is the small island of Spinalonga which was a former Venetian Fortress and more recently, a  leper colony until 1957. It can be visited from the harbour of Elounda by caique taking about 20 minutes.
